Finally Finished The Plunge

In 2007 when I was still relatively new to knitting I learned to knit socks. I knit them on two circular needles. I began knitting two at once, then realized I could finish faster knitting one at a time. I also learned to mark my rows, instead of inches, to get two socks of the exact same length. I joined the original 52 Pair Plunge. I did not finish my pairs within a year which was the goal. But last night I did finish the 52nd Pair and I still feel the achievement was worth the effort - despite the late completion date.

This is the very last sock of my 52 Pair Plunge.

Making Progress

I finally took pictures of my Austermann Step socks and blocked my Forest Canopy Shawl in Wollmeise Hollerstaudn colorway. I also found a super easy hat pattern on one of my really old HGTV tapes. I whipped one up for my sister in brown to go with the scarf I gave her for Christmas. I am still trying to finish my Magnolia Afghan in Tudor Homespun, and several shawl projects. I am spending much less time online, and it shows in the number of finished objects. The time I spent taking photos and making posts today catches me up a little bit.

I love it when people request my stuff. A lady at work wanted one of these hats after she saw mine. I still need to put the buttons on the sides and the plastic canvas in the brim. Oh and it came out much bigger than my orginal ones. I call myself follwoing the instructions to the "t" and I did treble crochets instead of double and this is what I got. You know what is wierd I used a smaller hook ( ok so i did not follow the directions to the t) and it came out so much bigger. But she loves it and therefore I do too.

I am very excited about the Crochet by Numbers portrait I just completed. I got the free pattern from Todd A Paschall back in July but did not get to start the piece until after the UFOlympics. I am very pleased I was able to complete it before Christmas dinner, which is the next time I will be seeing Davi. This photo was one of the proofs she sent me when she graduated from Southern Univ. in May.

So I made a tute for a cell phone cozy that is worked from the bottom up. I used the Eastern Cast on (aka Turkish) method to start it off. It's uaually used to make toe up socks so I figured I'd share my vid here. Hope this is useful.

Hey everybody,

I just got a call from my dad saying that my sister Stephanie was just named a finalist in the Sheetz Coffee Poetry contest. If y'all don't have a Sheetz near you, first let me say that I am sorry. Sheetz is the Shangri-La version of a gas station: great music while you are pumping gas, you can order food at a touch screen menu while you are pumping gas, and you can order a variety of great food including one of the best Big Salads ever. Anyway, they put out a call for videos of people sharing their Sheetz coffee-inspired poetry. Steph entry is below. Starting on July 11th you can go to here to vote for Steph's video. Please vote for my sis - she is clever and funny and I know one day I can convince her to knit.

Before I show the video, I should show you some knitting. I made Elephante and the Super Quick Baby Socks for a co-worker who is having a baby at the end of this month.

Hey y'all - I forgot to post my latest FO on here. Can't forget my Ebony Sistahs. lol. This project took under a month, including the time I took to work on my Orangina. The only modifications I made to the Back to School U Neck Vest was to lengthen the body and narrow the straps. I'm very happy with how it turned out. This is my third project from Stefani Japel's Fitted Knits book and I'm sure it will not be the last! Feel free to check out the details on my blog.

Pop's Sweater and matching hat

So, I finished my dad's sweater a couple of weeks ago and I had yarn left, so I made my first knitted hat. I didn't actually have a specific pattern. I wanted to rib the bottom like the sweater and just do stockinette stitch for the rest of it. A friend told me how many to cast on and i went form there. Of course, I've told my dad that he REALLY doesn't have to wear the hat with the sweater. In fact I actually prefer him not to. He says his girlfriend will probably steal the hat anyway so then they'll just match. :D but here's the hat and sweater.

And here's a couple of pics of my sweater. I'm calling it the "Knit it Down Hoodie" cause I added the hood to it instead of the dorky looking collar it had in the pattern. I've finished one sleeve since I took these pics though. I'm in the home stretch now!!!

I finished the Gryffindor Bag I was making for the EE KCAL, and the HSKS4. I am not into sewing so the lining is a little wonky. It blocked better than I was expecting. The Button with the rearing Lion and Gryphon was pure luck.

I substituted the yarn for Takhi Donegal Tweed and using Kathmandu Dk yarn in grape for the constrasting band. I've begun working on the front... so will see you all soon.

Vintage Crochet

Hey All!

I added a new old technique tutorial to my blog for those who are interested. It is an old crochet technique called broomstick lace. Many of you crocheters may already use this technique, but I had forgotten all about until my attendance at Stitches West where the ladies at Diva Stitch Studios refreshed my memory. Broomstick lace involves using both a crochet hook and a knitting needle or dowel or broomstick (hence the name), basically a round stick of any material. I am currently working on a jacket using broomstick lace and crochet ribbing.

I am making nice progress on my Swap Bag, in between socks of course. I love this slip stitch motif knitting technique. It looks like the more complicated stranded colorwork or intarsia knitting, but is just a simple slipping of stitches of one color in the row.

I made this for a friends soon to be newborn from the crocheted sweater dress pattern found on the Bella Bambina Blog. It's made out of plum wine simply soft. And I used a simple bootie pattern to match because I had yarn left over. (still have some left too)

Ok, I'm "actively" working on a project right now. I'm going to try and blog about it as often as possible and hope for feedback to keep myself motivated. The project that I'm working on is a lace top. It may be a tank or short sleeve top. Depends on if I have enough yarn left for sleeves. It's not a fast project do to the fact that it's fancy lace, so I'm trying to remain motivated to finish it. It's going to be quite pretty once finished and then it's on to the next project.
