Hello!

Hello ladies! I'm excited to join your group!

My name is Kamika, I'm 31 years old and hail from the Los Angeles area. I've been knitting now for nearly 3 years. I taught myself through one of those "Teach Yourself To Knit" kits you find at Michaels. I also crochet which I learned from a neighborhood mother when I was around 8 but didn't pick back up until this year. In addition to stringing I am a self taught sewer, occasionally bead (on knit/crochet wear) , love gospel music, reading, natural haircare, and photoshopping. I'm currently working on a line of crochet jewelry and some felted bags.

Please feel free to stop by my blog, Kinky Coils & String, anytime. Comments are always appreciated and KAL/CAL ideas are welcome.

Whats on the needles?

I'd love to know what everyone is working on. (So I can anticipate FO photos!)

I'm working on the Rivendell hat in Cascade 220 in a greenish brown color. I also have a mitered square lovey blanket for my 7 month old in the works in KPPPM - my own pattern. I'm planning on it being 4 mitered squares with a small border around the edges, as the yarn supply permits.

(I am a chronic cast-oner, so I actually have about five WIPs right now..., those are the two I'm diligently working on at the moment.)

et toi?

WIP and a site with lots of freebie pattern links

A couple of photos of my WIP. The photo on the far left is Top 126 from "Poetry in Stitches" the yarn is Claudia Handpaints in Red Wagon, I discovered too late that they were labeled incorrectly so my dyelots do not match and the shop is out of business. Shoulder straps and crochet edging to go.
The right photo is a design that I found in an vintage knitting book but I used the shaping from IK fall 2006 Venezia, one sleeve to go. KnitPicks Palette in Ash/ Fog and Red.
I really like the shape and plan to use it for 2 other designs.

I found a blog that maybe of interest as it has lots of freebie pattern links:

Hello from SF

I am Bev, aka paletpc, and I just celebrated my 3 year knitting anniversary. Like Erica B. I am a craft hopper. When it comes to all things fiber I am bicraftual - I love crochet and knitting. I am a member of the Crochet Guild of America and the Knitting Guild of America. I attend all of the conferences held in Oakland, CA. If any of you plan to attend in September 2007, e-mail me so we can hook up. I usually stay at the Marriott so I can cram in as many classes and as much networking as possible. paletpc@mindspring.com

I joined the blogosphere to participate in SP9 and stayed. I am knitting lots of socks right now as a participant in the Lime & Violet Sock Yarn Marathon, the 52 Pair Plunge, Lace Style and the Knit Your Stash 2007 KAL. Knocking out 4 KALs with each pair of socks I knit; multitasking you know?! http://newbhs.blogspot.com

I listen to most of the craft and fiber related podcasts which is how Adrienne and I became online friends. I hope to make many more online friends through this group!!

Greetings, Ebony Knitterati!

I am thrilled to have found this group. I have been knitting since I was a little girl at my grandmother and mommy's knee. Since I just turned 40 (gasp!) this month, that means I have over thirty years of knitting under my belt. I am a mommy to three lovely girls--one is a knitter. I am a writer, and I work part time in my local yarn shop. One of my essays on knitting was published in Annie Modesitt's anthology about the theraputic aspects of knitting called, Cheaper Than Therapy: Joy, Healing & Life Lessons in Fiber. I love to teach knitting and attend knitting groups in the local DC Metro area.

My favorite projects these days are lace shawls and socks. Both are portable and easy to work on in the small snatches of time that I have available to knit these days.

I guess that's all for my intro. I do have a blog that does have some knitting content: http://www.nubianweb.com/brnwebgrrl

I look forward to meeting you all and seeing what we will do with this new community.

Intro to me!

Gina, I live in Sweden just outside of Stockholm.
I learned to knit in 5th grade but never progressed any further than scarves. I was so impressed when I watched Adrienne turn out her first then second project by way of her blog, I KNEW I had to try again! I love all things crafty as well and spend at least 2 hours a day infront of my desk doing something artistic like scrapping or altering books or ATC's. I am married and a mom to 4: a 2 year-old ( tomorrow) , The Princess who is almost 10 and twin boys turning 14 tomorrow also. My goal is to learn to make socks before the end of the year!

Hello fellow knitrixs!!

My name is Sherry aka urbanknitrix and I live in Washington, DC. I am happy to join this group of like knitters. A little about me. I am 33 years old, and I am married to a wonderful guy and have three beautiful kids.

I am one of those people who have to keep busy. After I graduated from college in 2004, I became bored and was working everyone's nerves, so I decided to learn how to knit which was a big deal because I am a lefty and I taught myself (thanks to the internet). However, for lefties there is always a challenge because it is a right handed world, so I decided to learn how to knit the "right" way, because I knew the patterns were going to be for the right hand knitter. Anyway, I fell in love and have been knitting every since.

Just saying hello...

Hello, everyone. I'm Shawn. My taught me to knit, crochet and sew when I was 9 year old. I just starting knitting again about a year ago. I'm so excited to be a part of this group.

This is who I am

Hey Ladies,
Just wanted to give you an introduction and a little insight. I've been knitting for only around a year and a half. I'm self-taught since October 2005. I went to AC Moore and had the knitting instructor teach me how to cast on and I was on my way. Here are my knitting projects so that you can see what I've done in the past. I've always been really crafty... kinda of a craft-hopper! LOL Right now, I'm extremely passionate about sewing... but hey, you still need sweaters and other knitted pieces, right? Right! So, I was very enthused about starting this group with Adrienne... I have been in a knitting slump for quite some time and needed something to get me all excited to knit (to completion) again and this is it! So thrilled that you all are here and I hope that you are just as excited as I am!

Hello

Thanks for letting me join. I am an avid knitter since my childhood, I am from Barbados and we were taught to knit in school.
I travel for a living and usually design my own sometimes drawing inspiration from published designs. Am currently working on site that will showcase my work.
Looking forward to learning and meeting you all.
Sandra

Tia here

Hello all! I'm so excited to be a part of this community! I saw the hubbub over at Livejournal, much to my dismay. I asked some time ago about a webring for Knitters of Color and got the same flack. Oh well, here we are anyway!

Some background - I am a 30 yo mom of two daughters(7 yo and a 7 month old). I learned to knit just about two years ago, have crocheted forever and do lots of other crafts. I was heavily into beading at one point. Since learning to knit, I've worked my way up to a strong intermediate (I think!).

I've always been the odd one out in any circle of friends - and I know of few other crafters of color in general, much less knitters, here in Minneapolis/St. Paul. I definately stand out at the craft fairs and Craft n Chat nights, even if I am very welcomed. I could go much deeper into why this means so much to me, but I'll leave it there for today.

Happy crafting everyone!
